Feel free to look into my window

Everyone has windows, some are open and some are closed. I decided to open a window of my life so that you can come in and see what I am thinking, doing, feeling. Please take some time to see what is going on and comment if you feel the need.

About Me

Thank you for visiting my blog! My name is Steve Szeszko, and I live in Dover, Delaware with my beautiful wife Constance, and with my two daughters; Sydney and Madison along with our puppy Max and Guinea Pig Isabella. This blog is about my never-ending trek to becoming fit and healthy.

If you had asked Connie if she would ever think that I would start a blog on fitness and health, she would have looked at you like you were absolutely crazy!

I always took being healthy for granted, after all I joined the Air Force right out of High School and always had some type of physical activity going on in my life.  I didn't hit the gym, I just did me and liked where it was going.  Then age started to creep up on me and things were not as easy as they used to be for me.  My once slim middle was starting to grow more and it was not as easy to get it to go away as before.

Don't get me wrong, I was not going too far in the outward direction, I like the term "skinny fat".  But does that mean I was healthy? No way!!

So what was the turning point for me? What flipped the switch inside my head that caused me to want to change? Well, I got a side ward glance in a buildings mirror glass reflection and did not like what I saw.  I tried to say it was the jacket I was wearing, but it just hit me every time I walked past a reflection to look to see.  I started sucking it in and thinking I could live that way, on constant suck in mode.  I realized that I needed to do something, not only was it a reflection of the Air Force, but to my family as well.  I needed to get into shape and drop some of those LBS.

So I bought magazines, hit the weights and decided I was going to turn flab into muscle.  That lasted about a month.  It was hard work finding the time and then the gym smelled, I needed to shower and change clothes....soon enough I was over it and back to the old ways.   Then I found a friend who asked if I liked to run, I looked him straight in the eyes and without blinking said "nope".  Luckily he did not give up on me, he talked about running every day, I mean EVERY day.  How he had a good run, how he was able to get a quick run in this morning, lunch, evening.  What a great day to run!  I continued to smile and agree, "fine day it is today... you should go" I would say.  Just leave me alone, go away, let me work in peace!  The he signed me up for a 5K race and I now had a reason to run.

I am competitive, so I can't be a  total wimp, I can't come in last at the race and soon enough I fell in love with running.  Since then I have done tons of 5K races, a 10K race 3 half marathons and 2 Full Marathons.  I have run in 8 states and aboard a cruise ship, so technically I ran on water too!

I have taken courses and received certificates stating I know about fitness and nutrition.  Yet, despite all of this, I still will struggle at times at maintaining this lifestyle of being fit and healthy. I’m still going to make excuses on why I shouldn’t exercise from time to time. I’m still going to give in and eat some ice cream. I’m human, and I’m going to make mistakes. That’s also why it is a trek; it’s a never-ending trek to becoming fit and healthy.

Lastly, as you and others read my blog, I hope it will inspire, motivate, and help you in reaching your health and fitness goals.
